In Chinese tradition the serpent has long been called the little dragon (小龙), a creature of quiet wisdom and hidden wealth. The creators Fuxi and Nüwa (伏羲女娲) were depicted with entwined serpent tails in Han dynasty tomb reliefs, and the chronicles tell of the Marquis of Sui, who tended a wounded snake by the roadside and was repaid with a luminous pearl. The Tang Red 24 Onyx-Sand Python-Trimmed Crossbody Bag carries that lineage in a smaller, more intimate form, made as the companion to our Tang Red 27 tote and made to be kept.

The Motif · Onyx-Sand Python (墨砂蟒纹)

Here the python is used with restraint. A band of sand-and-ink scales traces the curved rim of the bag along its zip, then descends in a single slender strip through the gold-tone tab at the front, like a thread of mist crossing dark stone. Set against the deep onyx body, the scales catch the light in shifting tones of grey, ivory and charcoal, so the motif reads as a quiet frame for the silhouette rather than a surface that covers it.

Signature Details

The softly domed silhouette is built from pebbled cowhide with a natural litchi grain (荔枝纹), chosen for its supple hand and its ability to hold a clean line. At the front, an elongated gold-tone tab anchors the python strip in place, a single architectural gesture that gives the bag its character. Beneath, the base is pieced and finished with visible topstitching, lending structure to the foundation of the bag.
