This Tang Red 17 Embroidered Orchid Pearl Top-Handle Bag is made in that spirit.

The embroidered orchid blooms across its face are worked by hand, in the tradition of Chinese silk embroidery practised for more than two thousand years, and framed by a ground of woven mulberry silk, fine-latticed in ivory and silver. Above it all, the pearl bead handle: the house signature of Tang Heritage, carried here as a curving arc of graduated pearls that transforms the act of carrying into something closer to wearing jewellery.

Silk Embroidery & Bead-Setting

The craft applied to this bag is 绫绢刺绣钉珠: silk organza embroidery with bead-setting. It layers two distinct disciplines, the raised needlework tradition of Chinese hand embroidery and the jeweller's art of securing individual beads and accents by hand into the surface of the work. Where a machine-made bag would stop at fabric, this bag continues into ornament.

The embroidered florals are worked across a woven mulberry silk (桑蚕丝) ground: the material that made China legendary along the Silk Road, finer than any other natural fibre, with a lustre that holds colour and catches light in a way no synthetic can replicate. At the centre of the flap, a phoenix wing motif worked in silver thread frames the gold-tone clasp, a subtle reference to one of the most enduring symbols in Chinese culture, rendered here with the restraint appropriate to a modern piece. The phoenix does not announce itself. It is simply there, for those who look.
