Spring Window Double-Sided Printed Mulberry Silk Square Scarf

The name 桃李春风 recalls a line by the Song poet Huang Tingjian, written to an old friend far away: a cup of wine shared among peach and plum blossoms in the spring breeze (桃李春风一杯酒). The design begins with a spring afternoon by the window of an old house in Jiangnan, the water country south of the Yangtze. The outline of a carved wooden lattice window (木格花窗) becomes the frame of the scarf, and through it a garden opens: blossoming branches, full-blown flowers and small birds resting among the leaves. In the Chinese garden, every step brings a new view (移步换景), and open space is left as carefully as anything painted (留白). Here, that whole spring scene is gathered into a square of silk to be worn close.
