Silken Garden Printed Mulberry Silk Shawl / Scarf

The name 花影似锦 describes flower shadows spread like brocade, the way a garden in full bloom seems woven rather than grown. The designs are painted in the manner of Chinese flower painting, with soft washes of colour that let petals and leaves drift across the silk as if seen through morning light. Each colourway holds its own flower. The hydrangea, known in Chinese as the embroidered ball (绣球), is a symbol of togetherness and reunion. The peony is the flower of wealth and honour (富贵花). The lotus rises unstained from the mud (出淤泥而不染) and has long stood for purity of heart. Between the gathered blooms at each end, the ground fades into open space, like the unpainted silk of a scroll.
