The name 繁花绘影 speaks of the painted shadows of flowers in full bloom. The designs take their spirit from Chinese flower painting, where ink and colour are washed softly into the silk so that petals seem to emerge from mist. Much of the work recalls the boneless style (没骨), in which forms are built from colour alone, without an outline. Each colourway holds its own flower. There is white magnolia (玉兰), long admired for its purity and noble bearing, and the peony, the flower of wealth and honour (富贵花), painted twice: once in cool lilac and once in warm amber. Printed on both faces, the square has no wrong side, so every fold shows the painting.
