In the oldest Chinese characters, 羊 and 大 together form 美, beauty. The goat was not only a sign of good fortune, it helped define what the ancients found beautiful. And because 羊 shares its sound with 阳, the yang of spring, the little goat also stands for the first stirrings of the year: blossoms opening, warmth returning, all things beginning again.
This mirror takes its form from a white jade recumbent goat in the Palace Museum collection. Here the goat rests among spring flowers with two lambs beside it and butterflies at play, in soft flocking on a glittering red ground, ringed by a gold-tone frame.
Key Features
- Palace Museum Heritage Design - The little goat is drawn from an ancient white jade recumbent goat and reimagined in a gentle, modern spirit. It lies among peonies and blossoms, a quiet picture of spring arriving.
- Flocked Goat in Relief - The goat is raised in relief with a soft flocked surface, set against a red glitter back and framed by sculpted flowers, butterflies and tiny stars. The effect is part painting, part keepsake.
- 羊大为美 Goat as Beauty - The mirror carries the old idea that the goat is the origin of beauty itself. It is a fitting companion for anyone who likes to carry a little auspiciousness in their bag.
- Pom-Pom and Velvet Bow Charm - A soft white pom-pom with a red velvet bow adds the sound and spirit of the flower bell (花铃). In Chinese tradition, a bell is believed to call in good fortune. On the Folding Mirror, the beaded pom-pom chain is detachable and can be worn on a bag.
- Two Styles - The Portable Mirror (8.8cm) is a single mirror with a pom-pom and pearl-bell charm. The Folding Mirror (7.4cm) opens to a flat mirror on one side and a magnifying mirror on the other, with a beaded chain.
- Gift Box and Storage Pouch - Each mirror arrives in a gift box with a matching storage pouch printed with the little goat, ready to give.
- The Fire Goat Year - 2027 is the Year of the Fire Goat, a pairing that occurs only once every sixty years. A little goat to carry through the year is a gentle way to welcome its energy.

A Note on Authenticity
Lower-priced copies of these mirrors circulate widely in the market. They can resemble ours in a photograph, yet they differ in the materials used, the quality of the enamel and plating, and the care taken in their finishing. Every Tang Heritage mirror is a genuine article, sourced and finished to the standard we stand behind, and its quality shows in the hand. We ask that you purchase only from Tang Heritage or our authorised channels, and that you exercise caution with listings priced well below ours, as they are unlikely to be the same piece.
Care
Keep away from hard or sharp objects to protect the surface design. Wipe the mirror gently with a soft, dry cloth. Store in its box or pouch when not in use.
A little goat among the flowers, and a whole spring to carry in your bag.
