The Qianlong Emperor once wrote: "As the golden cycle turns and the year renews, may a hundred blessings arrive with spring." The Palace Museum's Fortune Calendar was made in that spirit, a calendar that carries not just the days of the year but the wish that each one brings something good.

In China, the hanging calendar has long been more than a practical object. It marks time the way the Chinese have always marked it: with painting, with poetry, with the weight of history made present in the home. This edition for 2027 gathers twelve masterworks from the Palace Museum collection, one for each month, so that the year unfolds as a private exhibition on the wall.

Key Features

  • Twelve Palace Museum Masterworks - Each month is paired with a full-colour reproduction of a work from the Palace Museum collection, spanning the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The paintings are printed with the artwork name, artist, and dynasty noted beneath, so each page is also a small lesson in Chinese art history.
  • The 三羊开泰 Fire Goat Theme - The cover and February page feature the goat motif, drawing on the auspicious phrase 三羊开泰, three goats heralding a prosperous new beginning. The Year of the Fire Goat 2027 is the rarest pairing in the sixty-year cycle, and this calendar was made to mark it.
  • Dual Calendar System - Each monthly page displays both the Gregorian calendar and the traditional Chinese lunar calendar (农历), with solar terms (节气), public holidays, and auspicious days all clearly marked. The large-character layout makes it easy to read at a glance.
  • Twelve Monthly Paintings - January: Honglisuichao Xingle Tu (Qing, anon.); February: Guangxiu White Satin Three Goats Screen (anon.); March: Tanghua Sishou Tu (Qing, Dong Hao); April: Huahun Zimao Tu (Jin, Wang Tingjun); May: Mudan Shuangshuan Tu (Qing, Yu Sheng); June: Longzhou Tu (Ming, Qiu Ying); July: Honglian Tu (Qing, Wu Yingzhen); August: Xiajing Huolang Tu (Ming, anon.); September: Qingming Shanghe Tu (Song, Zhang Zeduan); October: Guiju Shanqin Tu (Ming, Lu Ji); November: Jiedan Youqi Tu (Yuan, Zhao Yong); December: Huaniao Tu (Ming, Lu Ji).
  • Special Paper and Hardcase Packaging - Printed on premium specialty paper with a clean, large-character layout. Comes in an auspicious goat-motif red hardcase gift box with a gold rope handle, making it a complete CNY 2027 gift straight from the box.
  • The Fire Goat Year - 2027 is the Year of the Fire Goat, a pairing that occurs only once every sixty years. A calendar hung in the home at new year is one of the oldest Chinese domestic traditions, a way of welcoming time itself into the household with intention.
