Crown of Peonies Hairpin

The peony (牡丹) is called the king of flowers in Chinese tradition, the bloom that stands for prosperity, honour, and a woman's own quiet authority. Court ornaments favoured it above all others, and this hairpin follows that lineage: a full-blown peony rendered in layered relief, set on twin prongs, with beaded strands falling below to catch the movement of the wearer.

• Peony in full bloom (牡丹). The centrepiece is built up in sculpted layers so the petals unfold with real depth, echoing the floral ornaments once worn with ceremonial dress.
